The Garland and greater North Texas medical community is mourning the tragic death of Dr. Areeb Zamir, a pulmonologist at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Garland, who was killed in a car crash in Dallas on New Year’s Eve. He was 37 years old.

Dr. Zamir, a resident of Murphy, Texas, was widely respected for his dedication to patient care and deeply loved for his compassion, humility, and service to others. He was the beloved son of Nazia and Zafar Zamir, a family held in high regard within the community. News of his passing has left family, friends, colleagues, and patients heartbroken.

According to Dallas police, Dr. Zamir was identified as one of three victims in a series of crashes that occurred on North Central Expressway early New Year’s Eve morning. Authorities reported that two separate crashes took place within minutes of each other, one in the northbound lanes and another in the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 75 near the Interstate 635 interchange. The first crash occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. When officers arrived, they found Dr. Zamir in the roadway, where he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed his identity.

Dr. Zamir leaves behind his wife, Dr. Nabila Zamir, and their two young children, ages 8 and 3. His death has been described by loved ones as a loss beyond words—both a personal tragedy and a profound loss to the community he served.

Members of the community have shared prayers and messages of condolence, asking that Allah envelop Dr. Zamir in His infinite mercy, grant him the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdous, and provide strength, patience, and comfort to his parents, Nazia and Zafar Zamir, his wife, children, and the entire Zamir family during this unimaginably painful time.

Funeral services have been arranged in accordance with Islamic tradition. Dr. Zamir’s janazah is scheduled to take place at EPIC following Jumuah prayers at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, with the funeral prayer expected around 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Farmersville Cemetery at approximately 3:00 p.m.

As colleagues, patients, and loved ones continue to grieve, Dr. Areeb Zamir is remembered as a devoted physician, a loving husband and father, and a son whose life of service and kindness touched many. His legacy will endure in the lives he cared for and the family and community who will forever hold his memory close.

  1. Dr. Zamir was so good with his patients. I only saw him twice as a patient, but I readily referred a family member to him. I am extremely sad and pray for peace for his family.

  23. My heart breaks for Dr Zamir’s family and colleagues. Not only was Dr Zamir my pulmonologist, his wife is my Rheumatologist. The teamwork and communication between these two incredibly caring physicians can never be replaced.
    My own father was tragically killed in a multi car collision 65 years ago on New Years Eve.

    I will never forget Dr Zamir and the kindness behind his eyes.
